Bin El Ouidane Dam & Lake
Sadd Bin El Ouidane
A vast turquoise reservoir in the Atlas foothills, Bin El Ouidane is boat rides, canyon viewpoints and hydroelectric drama south of Beni Mellal, a lake so intensely coloured it looks edited. The dam wall is a mid-century statement; the water is the luxury. Take a boat into the drowned canyon, feeling the temperature drop between the cliffs, then sit on a terrace for grilled fish or a simple tagine with that impossible blue as tablecloth. Photographers should work the high viewpoints where the lake becomes a ribbon of turquoise in folded rock. Active travellers can kayak or swim in designated areas when conditions allow. The signature half-day is liquid and slow: engine cut, silence, cliffs, and the knowledge that this is a working reservoir as well as a beauty. Few Moroccan landscapes so completely rewrite the desert cliché. Bin El Ouidane is the Atlas as inland sea.
